Mithril Interactive is looking to give Dark and Darker a run for its money with its own hardcore first-person dungeon crawler, Dungeonborne. The game is set in a stunning UE-5 powered medieval fantasy world, not unlike those of The Elder Scrolls and Dungeons & Dragons franchises, with PvPvE extraction mechanics similar to Escape from Tarkov and Warzone 2.0’s DMZ mode.

“Dungeonborne is an immersive first-person PvPvE dungeon crawler. Venture solo or join forces with trusted companions to hunt for treasure, explore ominous dungeons, and battle terrifying monsters and cunning adversaries. Escape before succumbing to darkness and greed.”

You’ll be able to delve the game’s imposing gothic castles and subterranean labyrinths as one of seven playable classes, namely: Fighter, Priest, Rogue, Swordmaster, Pyromancer, Cryomancer, and Death Knight. Each class is inspired by traditional RPG tropes with unique abilities and distinct playstyles.

In between runs, you’ll have the option to craft new gear, upgrade existing ones, and concoct potions in preparation for your next dungeon-delving adventure. The game will also feature an auction house where you can sell unwanted gear and items or purchase some for your personal use.

Mithril Interactive hasn’t locked down a release date for Dungeonborne as of yet, but you can catch an early glimpse of the game in an open alpha test from February 2-12 as part of Steam’s indie-focused Steam Next Fest event. In the meantime, you can check out the gorgeous announcement trailer below.
