Now that the Lost Depths DLC and Update 35 are live on the Elder Scrolls Online Public Test Server, feedback has begun coming in and the community isn’t happy, particularly with the combat changes in Update 35 and Patch 8.1.0.

According to developer ZeniMax Online, the changes are meant to improve accessibility for newer players and to limit some of the “obscene damage” dealt at higher levels. Most of the complaints, however, are aimed specifically at those changes which include significant nerfs to both DPS and DoT skills.

Creative Director Rich Lambert was quick to dismiss the complaints on Twitter, calling them “knee-jerk reactions” that are “tiresome and disappointing.”

“Knee jerk reactions... while not unexpected, they are still tiresome and disappointing,” tweeted Lambert. “I get it, change is scary. At the same time though, a little trust would be much appreciated. At least experience the actual changes before guessing and going off the deep end...”

Naturally, players didn’t take too well to Lambert’s remark, although some players did agree that the changes were necessary to solve the issue of power creep. In any case, the changes are still on the PTS and will probably be tweaked, prodded, and adjusted to find some sort of middle ground before it hits the live servers on August 22nd for PC/Mac and Stadia and on September 6th for PlayStation and Xbox.
