Virginia-based indie studio Akrew has just launched a $50,000 Kickstarter campaign to help fund the development of its upcoming cozy MMO Galactic Getaway. The Animal Crossing inspired community-focused sandbox game has been in development since 2021, promising a multi-planetary adventure with space stations, unique biomes, player housing, farming, pets, and minigames.

“One of our main focuses is that Galactic Getaway is a social game,” Akrew says. “From playing with family and friends to making new ones, you will be able to farm, customize your planet and home, and play mini-games together.”

Its Kickstarter campaign has managed to raise a little over $25,000 as of this writing with 22 days to go in the crowdfunding drive. The studio, however, is offering just two stretch goals: cooking and fishing, which honestly should have just been included in the base version.

Pledges start at $20 if you want to get a copy of the game with a $5 discount currently being offered to early bird backers. Alpha testing is expected to start this April with early access launch on PC, Mac, and Nintendo Switch set for sometime in August with cross-play confirmed between PC and Mac.
