The ability to stream games from the cloud to your TV seems to be the next big thing in gaming, or at least Microsoft seems to think so. Insider sources told VentureBeat that the tech giant is planning to release a device that will allow users to stream games on their TVs to expand on their existing Xbox cloud gaming platform.

The device will reportedly be coming out within the next 12 months and will probably be similar to Amazon’s Fire Stick or Roku. And like Roku, the device will also allow users to stream movies and TV shows in addition to the huge of library of games that’s already available with an Xbox Game Pass subscription.

For those with Samsung smart TV’s, you might not even need to buy a separate device as Microsoft is apparently working with the South Korean tech company to develop a game-streaming app for their TVs. The app is also expected to come out in the next 12 months.

The move isn’t exactly surprising considering that Microsoft has repeatedly stated that it doesn’t matter how users play Xbox games. That being said, the company has poured a huge amount of resources into their their consoles and devices to entice users to purchase them. Free-to-play games like Fortnite and Halo Infinite, however, as well as the aforementioned streaming device could allow Microsoft to expand their reach to gamers who’d rather not spend their money on expensive hardware.
