Desert Owl Games, the current developer and publisher of Pox Nora, announced yesterday that it is developing a new turn-based strategy MMO called Space Wars: Interstellar Empires that will be published by ToHeroes. In Space Wars, players choose one of four competing alien races, each of which has a set of 26 unique ships, and take to the stars to help their race "conquer the cosmos one planet at a time.

As players play the game, they will earn experience through "missions, battles, and conquering regions." Experience can then in turn be used to unlock the captain's skills and the officers' talents. Skill and talent unlocks will allow players to specialize their craft, which is said to be an important part of the game.

When in battle, players will control a single ship on a hex grid in a turn-based setting. The environment is said to play a major role in battles. For example, asteroid fields will obscure fleets whereas ion storms will disable shields.

ToHeroes CEO Robert Simyar had the following to say about the announcement.

Space Wars is the balance of individual strategy, tactical positioning and large-scale social play I haven't found in any other game. After several years of conceptual work, we are nearly ready to bring the universe in our dreams to life.

Space Wars: Interstellar Empires will be launched as an Early Access product in December. In the meantime, more details about the game are set to be unveiled at PAX West 2016.
