Wild Terra Is Going 3D, Adding Character Customization

There are quite a lot of gameplay parallels between Juvty Worlds' isometric survival MMORPG Wild Terra and Seatribe's permadeath sandbox MMORPG Haven and Hearth. Today, Juvty Worlds announced what could be seen as yet another parallel; Wild Terra is going 3D.

When the new server tests launch in February, all of Wild Terra's sprites will be replaced with 3D models. The team decided to make this drastic change because they realized that character animations were becoming exponentially more difficult and producing mediocre results along the way. As they put it, the full set of character animations currently weighs in at 30 MB and is not anywhere near finished just yet. This, in turn, caused them to question how well-optimized the game might have been.

As a result of the move to 3D, several major features that would have been difficult in the past are now becoming a reality. Perhaps the biggest addition is that of character customization. Players will be able to change hair style, hair color, skin color, and more. The move to 3D will also allow animals to exist in different sizes more easily—the example given was wolf pups and adult wolves existing simultaneously. Players will also be able to mount any large animal. Additionally, animations will now be smoother and equipment will be added to the game at an accelerated rate.

Unfortunately, not many in-game screenshots have been posted yet. I have embedded one of the two tiny screenshots that they included in the original post below.
