Ubisoft Entertainment was officially founded in 1986, by the efforts of the five Guillemot brothers - Yves Guillemot (Chairman and CEO), Christian Guillemot, Claude Guillemot, Gérard Guillemot and Michel Guillemot.

Ubisoft got its initial start as a publisher and distributor, and began to grow and expand globally after its few years. During this phase, Ubisoft began developing their own in-house games. In 1995, the wildly successful and critically acclaimed 2-D platformer, Rayman, was released.

Following the success of Rayman, Ubisoft was then publicly listed on the Paris Stock Exchange in 1996. The company began to further its growth through strategic acquisition of smaller game companies and creative licenses, bringing franchises such as Prince of Persia and Tom Clancy under its belt.

Ubisoft's success continues over the next decade, publishing and creating games across all platforms. As online access for games became ubiquitous, Ubisoft launches its own service platform Uplay for its consumers. However with issues such as forced Uplay service connection for game access, buggy client services and game progress resets, the Uplay platform has come under much fire from users over the years.

Despite Uplay's controversies, Ubisoft's presence is undeterred with the popularity of its online multiplayer and co-op games. Some of Ubisoft's most successful franchises include the Tom Clancy series (Ghost Recon Wildlands, The Division), Far Cry, Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia.
