The game features three starting classes and two job advancements per class available at Level 20. The game's classes are:

Fighter:

• Warrior – Warriors are the tanks of the game, fighting with a sword and a shield. They have the highest defense.
• Swordsman – heavy damage dealers that use two-handed swords. Heavy armor, but less defense than warriors.

Rogue:

• Assassin – stealthy melee DPS characters.
• Archer – ranged class specialized in using bows.

Mage:

• Cleric – powerful support class that can heal and buff allies. Low armor and HP.
• Wizard – casters that deal heavy damage using spells. Low armor and HP make them particularly vulnerable.

Legend of Edda is a 3D isometric, anime-styled MMORPG developed by Eyasoft and published by JC Planet in both the US and EU regions. It was originally released through GamesCampus in open beta on May 4, 2010, but GamesCampus shut the service down and JC Planet picked up the service. The game was also known as "Legend of Edda: Vengeance" at one point. The JC Planet version of the game is considered the global version of Legend of Edda and has no IP restrictions.

Getting Started

In Legend of Edda, there are two factions: Olympus and Titan, with Olympus representing the powers of good and Titan representing the powers of evil. Choosing a faction is an account-wide decision, so if you choose Olympus on your main, all your characters must be a part of that faction. Both factions start in Gaiyan Town, but in two separate instances of it. There is one small difference: in the Olympian Gaiyan Town, it’s daytime, and in the Titan version of the town, it’s nighttime. In fact, the two factions do not meet each other in the first few zones, with each faction playing in their own instanced version of the world.

There are four character slots per server, which is more than enough considering that there are three classes in the game. Each class has two specializations. You have Fighters with Warriors and Swordsmen as specializations, Rogues with Assassins and Archers, and Mages with Clerics and Wizards. When it comes to character customization, there are two gender options, and several options for hairstyle, hair color, and face. The graphics style is very ‘chibi,’ as in childish versions of anime characters.

The game can be played using either the mouse or the keyboard to move. Because of the isometric view, it can feel a little strange when you try to control the characters using the keyboard, but you can get used to it fairly quickly. You have WASD or point-and-click for movement, Space for interactions and jumping, Q for looting, and the number keys for skills, abilities, and potions.

Leveling Up

Questing in Legend of Edda is as generic as it gets. Kill 10 X, collect 10 Y; these quests are usually given in tandem, but sometimes, it’s from quest givers in different parts of town, which can mean that you’ll have to grind the same type of mob twice. When it comes to leveling, you can expect a moderate XP gain. Upon leveling up, players receive 1 skill point and an automatic stat increase. Skills are learned from NPC trainers in town, and these skills can be either passive or active.

PvE, PvP, and Other Features

The PvE in Legend of Edda is fairly standard, with instanced dungeons that players can tackle in groups. These dungeons have three difficulty settings, with the higher difficulties having more monsters and better rewards. When it comes to PvP, players can engage in duels, guild and group battles, and Sacred Treasure Battles. The Sacred Treasure Battles are large-scale skirmishes between the two factions, which take part in special PvP instances. Winning these battles comes with several rewards, including points which can be used to unlock demi-god skills. These are powerful and special skills that can be unlocked for each class.

Other features include job advancements, which have both functional and aesthetic benefits. There is also a crafting system which can be used to upgrade gear. However, crafting in Legend of Edda is a gamble, because there is a risk to break the gear you are trying to upgrade. There is also a pet system which unlocks at Level 10, and a mount system which unlocks at Level 20.

Cash Shop

The cash shop in Legend of Edda is called the Item Mall and is accessible through an in-game menu. Players can make purchases using JC Points. The Item Mall contains XP and drop rate boosts, enchant protection items, mounts, pets, and aesthetic costumes. The majority of items found in the Mall are tradable and sellable, which means that these items are not exclusive cash purchases. This is an interesting way of making sure that even F2P have access to cash shop gear, even if it means paying boatloads of in-game money for them. It would be nice if every game made cash shop items tradeable.

Final Verdict – Good

Legend of Edda is a cute, but generic MMORPG. If you like point-and-click games, with decent PvE and PvP systems, Legend of Edda is a game you can try. It is fairly linear and grindy, but at the same time, it feels very relaxing. It does not bring anything new to the table, but is still a solid game. The game also features fun large-scale Realm v Realm battles, which is something you wouldn't expect in such a cute game.

Development History / Background:

Legend of Edda was developed by the South Korean gaming studio Eyasoft, the same studio behind Iris Online and Luna Online. Since the game's original release date in Korea back in May 2010, the game has had its ups and downs. Prospects for Legend of Edda looked promising when GamesCampus licensed the title as "Legend of Edda," and launched the game into open beta in the US on February 17, 2013. Unfortunately, the game's popularity dwindled and GamesCampus shut the service down. GamesCampus later revived the game as "Legend of Edda: Vengeance," but that version shut down for good on January 22, 2014. On September 24, 2014, the game was revived for a third time as "Legend of Edda Global" through JC Planet, the same publisher behind Seal Online. Third time proved not to be a charm and the servers closed once again.
