Overview

Order of Battle: World War II Overview

Order of Battle: World War II, formerly known as Order of Battle: Pacific, is a 3D turn-based historical strategy game that features hex-based movement and combat similar to the classic strategy game Panzer General. The game is not truly free-to-play, as its free content is limited to tutorial and campaign demos that equate to roughly 10 hours of gameplay. Purchases are necessary to play the game's full campaigns from each expansion. Offering a selection of over 700 unique units, players build their military power by buying army, fleet, and air force units themed after their chosen faction. The game seamlessly blends air, land, and sea combat through the use of multiple layers, allowing planes to occupy the same tile as ships or ground units. One of its unique features is its portrayal of supply lines, forcing players to play intelligently by utilizing support ships and captured bases at the risk of having significantly less efficient units. The game also offers an in-game scenario editor, 4-player multiplayer support, unique Commanders that buff units, and player Specializations.

Order of Battle: World War II Key Features:

  • Hex-Based Strategy – relive the days of a Panzer General on a hex-based playing field, setting itself apart from typical grid-based strategy.
  • Over 700 Unique Units – produce a large variety of units for each faction, each with unique skills, abilities, and custom camo paint jobs.
  • Land, Sea, and Air Combat – utilize your entire military force that include infantry, tanks, aircrafts, and ships by taking advantage of each unit type's strengths.
  • User-Generated Content – play challenging scenarios dreamed up by other players or build your own with the game's user-friendly in-game editor.
  • 4-Player Multiplayer – partake in intense multiplayer over PBEM++ and Hotseat which supports last man standing, team battle, and co-op against AI.

Development History / Background:

Order of Battle: World War II, formerly known as Order of Battle: Pacific, is developed by The Artistocrats, an independent game studio that specializes in historical strategy games. The game was published by Slitherine Software, a UK-based developer and publisher known for tabletop wargames and digital strategy games such as Legion Arena and Panzer Corps. The game was released on Steam on April 30, 2015 and was buy-to-play. Multiple expansions have since been released, including Morning Sun, U.S. Marines, and Winter War, the game going partially free-to-play after the release of U.S. Marines with its new World War II name to encompass the global nature of the game's scenarios on June 14, 2016. The game is split into multiple products: World of War II that features a free tutorial campaign and DLC demos, and the game's multiple paid DLC expansions.
