Star Realms Overview

Star Realms is a free-to-play strategic collectible card MMO. Gameplay is based directly on the physical Star Realms card game, offering a seamless transition from physical to digital gameplay. It blends on-the-fly deck building with TCG-style combat similar to games like Hearthstone and Magic: The Gathering. Matches are based around the usage of Trade, Authority, and Combat statistics from varying cards to purchase new cards for your quickly rotating deck from the trade row, protect your authority with bases, and attack the enemy with fighter ships. Instead of starting with a pre-built deck like many popular CCGs, players build their deck on the fly from a premade deck of cards and pick factions as necessary, requiring quick, strategic decision making to build useful decks using Combat to wear down the enemy's Authority points. Players can choose from a variety of different game modes that include globally ranked PvP matches, a 15-mission single player campaign mode, three levels of A.I. difficulty in quick matches, and local PvP that allows players in close proximity to play the game. One purchase of the game unlocks the full game on Android, iOS, and Steam, and are supported by the game's cross-platform online play.

Star Realms Key Features:

  • Over 80 Collectible Cards – utilize over 80 varied cards in your decks with gameplay that encourages experimentation and multiple strategies.
  • Four Distinct Factions – cards come in four faction varieties each with different strengths and weaknesses, including: the Trade Federation, the Blobs, the Star Empire, and the Machine Cult.
  • Fast-Paced Gameplay – instead of spending hours planning moves and building decks the game offers a partially randomized experience that forces players to alter their strategies often.
  • PvP and PvE Modes – play online with friends, verse three difficulties of AI, or take on the game's 15 mission campaign mode.
  • Easy to Learn, Hard to Master – offering a straightforward set of rules, the game is easy to pick up but has enough depth to keep advanced players interested.

Star Realms is developed and published by White Wizard Games, a card game developer notable for its leadership by professional Magic: The Gathering players, Rob Dougherty and Darwin Kastle. The game began as a Kickstarter campaign, launched on October 3, 2013 with a goal of $20,000. Its Kickstarter was fully funded within five days of its launch, ending on November 2, 2013 with a total of $51,481 raised that went towards its development, production, and variety of stretch goals that included promo cards, a campaign mode, and a co-operative game mode. The game was planned for both a physical and multi-platform digital release, its physical game coming out first on March 26, 2014. The Android version released on July 3, 2014, trailed by an iOS release on August 13, 2014 after multiple setbacks with the app store approval process. Its PC and Mac version was posted to Steam Greenlight on December 9, 2015, and was finally released on the Steam platform on March 8, 2016.
