Overview

Travian Overview

Travian is a popular browser-based city-building MMORTS that dates back to September 2004. It primarily features 2D art and text to convey its mechanics, much like OGame, as opposed to newer RTS games that use animations and newer technology. This allows it to be easily playable on lower-end computers, phones, and tablets without draining the battery or slowing down other tasks. The game takes place in colonial Europe, beginning with an undeveloped village surrounded by resources. Directed by a tutorial and basic objectives, players eventually build up their resources and village to allow for a small military force and a marketplace, allowing for interaction with nearby players. Plunder other players’ resources, trade with other players, or join an Alliance to become a part of a greater ring of help. Alliances will ultimately allow for protection against the game’s somewhat brutal PvP and for even more access to players to trade with. The game also cycles through time, with its end-game Wonders of the World to construct, acting as the game’s final ranking. The winner of each game round is the first player to build their World Wonder to level 100, giving the game replayability similar to Rail Nation.

Travian Key Features:

  • In-Depth City Building – take control over your resources with a complex resource management system to build a great empire.
  • Three Tribes – pick from the Romans, Gauls, and Teutons, all with their own specialties in gameplay to suit different playstyles.
  • Hero System – fully equippable hero that goes out on adventures, generates resources, and helps expand your village.
  • Competitive Community – brutal, militaristic community that forces you to create alliances to protect yourself.
  • Wonders of the World acts as the game's final ranking giving the game replayability.
