The Black Death Challenges Players To Survive The Plague

Syrin Studios and Small Impact Games' The Black Death, the latest title picked up by Green Man Gaming's publishing arm Green Man Loaded, is looking to provide a different kind of survival experience. Set in medieval Europe, the game pits players against the plague in addition to traditional survival game challenges. "How long can you survive before you succumb?" the press release asks. It appears that it's less of a matter of if you succumb and more of a matter of when.

The Black Death features an 8 km² world with a realistic day/night cycle. A varied set of ten classes will allow players to fill a larger variety of roles. Warriors fight, Peasants farm, and Minstrels entertain. The game features a "unique" combat system that requires proper timing of swings and parries. Players are given the option to hunt, harvest, or steal supplies. If you can't get the supplies yourself, you have the option of trading with other players. A housing system is in place for players that can afford it. Most importantly, though, you have to avoid getting infected. Plague victims are out there and they are dangerous.

Currently, The Black Death is set to release on Steam Early Access in March. A full launch is expected in the second quarter of this year.
