Battleborn goes "faux" Free-to-Play with an unlimited Free Trial

Do you recall this banner? Back on September 30th, we wrote an article about how Gearbox announced that its latest game, Battleborn, would never go Free-to-Play, but than a 'free trial' was in the works, at the time unannounced.

However, Battleborn has officially announced its free trial, and...it seems awfully close to a free full game. All players now have unlimited access to all competitive multiplayer gameplay modes, access to all maps, a weekly rotation of six heroes out of the thirty total, and progression with each hero stays to the account. So, what's locked behind that last thirty dollars that Battleborn is charging you for the "Full Game Upgrade?"

Well, as you might have guessed earlier, free players don't have access to the full roster of thirty heroes. Players who have already owned Battleborn prior to it going Free-to-play announcing its Free Trial will be granted "Founder Status." Founders of Battleborn will be rewarded with-

  • A special Founder title
  • Legendary Gear
  • 1,000 Platinum
  • 50,000 Credits
  • Loot Packs

Founders also get an exclusive Founder's Crown flair item.

What do you think? Battleborn currently has 789 players playing, as of 7:16 PM EDT. Will this Free Trial breathe new life into Battleborn, or is it doomed to forever stay in Overwatch's shadow?
