Battlefield 1's Open Beta launched today, sending players to the Sinai Desert to compete between two game modes: Rush or Conquest. The test phase is scheduled to last until September 8th. You'll have to download Origin to install and play the World War I large-scale shooter.

While there's only one map to pop headshots, the sanguine desert includes treacherous cliffs, shattered villages, tanks, bombers, and sneaky snipers. There's just enough to satiate anyone who has an appetite for Battlefield games.

Sean's Take: I had a chance to play briefly, and it's fun: as fun as any Battlefield game. I'm happy to see a return to World War I, a time period I've missed in mainstream shooters. But, from my limited playtime, it function like any other battlefield: join a squad, get in a vehicle, take objectives, and spam medic to rank up quickly. I'll have to play more to see how I ultimately feel about it, but it's worth trying if you've played other Battlefield games. My only question is, when are we going to see Battlefield 2142 revived?
