Blizzard Entertainment Under Fire For BlizzCon Q&A Question Submission Requirements

blizzard entertainment blizzcon 2019 characters bannerOver the past few weeks, Blizzard Entertainment has been in the middle of a PR nightmare following the controversial suspension of pro Hearthstone player Blitzchung over pro-Hong Kong statements and the resulting calls to boycott the studio. With BlizzCon 2019 right around the corner, the gaming community seems to be scrutinizing Blizzard’s every move including how the World of Warcraft Q&A will go down during the upcoming event.

The WoW Reddit is now afire with allegations that Blizzard is filtering out questions touching on the controversy. According to a former Blizzard employee, however, that’s the way it’s always been done in the past.

“This is how the Warcraft Q&A has been done for years so this isn’t anything new. WoW hasn’t had an ‘open’ Q&A in years. It’s curated for time and content mainly otherwise it’d be an unorganized mess that was all over the place.

Also FYI red shirt guy questions are considered every year if he submits one. He’s a cherished staple of the Q&A, unfortunately his question can’t make it every year. I can’t remember the recent reasons and questions he couldn’t ask but it wasn’t anything bad.

Source: I helped with it every year I was there.”

It looks like Blizzard will be under the microscope for a while. Hopefully, they don’t do (or announce) anything to rile up the community even further at BlizzCon. You can check out the full BlizzCon 2019 schedule here.
