Blizzard to Reduce Duplicate Loot in Overwatch & Hearthstone

Blizzard is looking to kill two birds with one stone with their upcoming patches for Overwatch and Hearthstone, by implementing changes in the loot systems in both games to reduce the frequency of duplicate items received.

In Overwatch's latest developer update, Jeff Kaplan explains that the reduction of duplicates coming to the lootbox system should be "immediately evident and extremely significant". Users who are looking to collect gold from duplicates will need not worry, as the gold earned from opening lootboxes will be increased to compensate for the reduction of duplicate items, so the credit intake "will be the same if not more" when the new system is in place.

Kaplan assures players that the new lootbox experience should "feel fantastic", and those who are eager to try out new loot system can do so currently in Overwatch's PTR.

Hearthstone has also announced in a blog post that they will be bringing some much needed changes to their card pack system. Starting from the release of their next expansion, Hearthstone will be drastically adjusting what kind of cards users will receive when opening packs.

One very welcome change that Hearthstone players will be looking forward to, is that users will no longer receive extra copies of a card once it has reached the 2-card deck limit. On that same note, when players are opening a Legendary card, they will not receive a duplicate of a Legendary (golden or non-golden) they already own. This will undoubtedly make it a lot easier for users to collect the cards they need without needlessly gambling money on opening packs.

With the new expansion release, users will also be happy to learn that Blizzard is guaranteeing at least one Legendary card within opening the first 10 packs of a new set.

Blizzard is making a positive impact with their overhaul of the rewards system in both Overwatch and Hearthstone, something which players are very excited to see as they have been requesting these changes for a long time now. For Hearthstone in particular, which has seen flagging sales earlier this year, this new change may just give it the boost it needs in time for the anticipated release of its next expansion.
