Christmas Comes To RuneScape

Christmas isn't quite here yet, what with December just starting today, but that isn't stopping Jagex from prepping RuneScape for the holidays. The ever-popular sandbox MMORPG unveiled several events spread across its various versions today that are all themed around the Christmas holidays. RuneScape's lead designer, David Osborne, was quoted saying "celebrating the annual festivities with our players is something we relish." He notes that next year will be their 15th anniversary, with celebrations on the way, but that they are going to "[see] out 2015 in style."

The "main game" has just received a new multi-part mini-quest called The Pinch Who Stole Christmas. Players are tasked with investigating the disappearance of several people and a "present-laden iceberg that’s mysteriously appeared off the coast of Daemonheim." Each part of the quest will unlock more Christmas activities. The first of these activities is "The Great Gielinor Bake Off." Cosmetic rewards are available to collect, as well, for those who are interested. The main game also features a new Advent calendar that will give each player a new item once a day until Christmas. The press release asks "have they been good enough this year to receive a rare item?"

Old School RuneScape will have slightly less impressive festivities. Players of Old School RuneScape will be tasked with stopping Anti-Santa, who was kicked out of Death's home on Halloween. Livestreams will be taking place alongside this event where the staff will be giving out Santa hats and party hats from the holiday festivities in 2001 and 2002.

For more information, head to the official website. These festivities will be available until January 11, 2016.
