Citadel Studios Announces The End, A New Viking-Themed Multiplayer Action RPG

the end gothic building bannerLegends of Aria developer, Citadel Studios, has just revealed that they’re working on a new Viking-themed hack-and-slash multiplayer survival RPG called The End. According to PCGamer, the game is set in a dark fantasy “crumbling heaven” where players go on solo quests to acquire magical relics to gain access to powerful spells and equipment. Combat will be action-based with spells that focus more on splash damage rather than single targets similar to frag shooters like Quake.

“Many spells are thrown to a ground location versus being ‘sniped’ or launched as a projectile,” said Citadel. “This offers a very unique and tactile experience to casting and offers an element of first-person twitch, but with a skill curve that welcomes beginners and tests more advanced players.”

As for the multiplayer aspect of the game, players will also be able to join Warbands with up to four other players to capture and defend persistent domains. Warbands must first declare a feud against a defending Warband by summoning a “Feud Stone”. They will then be given a certain amount of time to capture or defend the domain.

Citadel said that they purposely kept Warbands small to ensure that PvP and domain battles are accessible to players who would rather not join a big guild or outfit. ”Warbands form the backbone of The End and we aim to guarantee that smaller groups of friends or strangers can fully experience and engage in our gameplay,” explained the devs.

The End will also feature a Feat system that will track each player’s in-game stats and achievements. The system will also tie in with the game’s version of permadeath. Players can always come back to life but there’s a chance that they might lose some, if not all, of their feats, achievements, and legacies when they die along with the options they unlock.

Citadel Studios has yet to announce a release date for The End. You can sign up for updates and a chance to get early access invites on the game’s official site.
