Defunct Battle Royale Game The Culling Will Relaunch On Xbox One With A New Business Model

the culling origins relaunch bannerXaviant Games got a lot of ire from The Culling players back in 2018 when they released The Culling 2 due to bugs and allegations that the developers abandoned the original game. Players subsequently boycotted the new game forcing the studio to cancel it and go back to working on The Culling. The game was relaunched as a free-to-play game called The Culling: Origins which was also shut down a few months later.

Now, Xaviant Games is back with an announcement that they will, again, be relaunching The Culling: Origins on Xbox One with a new business model. New players will be able to try the game for free for one day, after which they’ll have to pay $5.99 to continue playing. Old players will get the game for free. What’s interesting, is that players will only get to play one online match per day. If they win the match, they’ll get an Online Match Token that they can use to play another online match.

What happens when you lose? According to the official press release, you can either purchase Online Match Token packs to continue playing for $0.99 for 3 tokens, $2.99 for 10, and $4.99 for 20, or purchase Online Passes for unlimited play. An Online Pass will set you back $1.99 for 7 days and $5.99 for 30 days.

The Culling: Origins relaunches on May 14th. Check out the official trailer below.
