Throne and Liberty Launches Globally on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S

After what feels like a millennium of waiting, Throne and Liberty has finally seen the light of day. First announced back in 2011 as Lineage Eternal, this game has been through several rebrands, delays, and tweaks, before finally landing in the hands of players worldwide.

The game initially launched in South Korea at the end of 2023, and it was met with mixed reception as NCSoft continued refining the game. Fast forward to this month, and Throne and Liberty opened the gates for a five-day paid early access period, with a peak of nearly 57K players on Steam during that time.

By now, you probably know the drill—servers overloaded, players getting booted mid-character creation, and the classic scramble to add more servers as complaints flooded in. Despite these bumps, Throne and Liberty is already pulling impressive numbers, hitting a peak of over 326,000 players on Steam, not counting the Xbox and PlayStation users. Sure, the reviews are currently mixed—probably thanks to those pesky launch-day bugs—but hey, what’s an MMO launch without a little chaos?

“We've been listening to the community’s feedback closely,” said Amazon Games Franchise Lead Merv Lee Kwai. “Your feedback was key in helping us lock in the best experience for the launch of the game... We plan to continue listening and improving the game based on player data.” With server issues likely to continue throughout the week, it’ll be interesting to see how many more new worlds pop up to meet demand.

Set in the sprawling world of Solisium, Throne and Liberty features guild warfare, massive player-vs-player (PvP) battles, and castle sieges. NCSoft promises ever-shifting landscapes, co-op dungeons, and a variety of PvE content like open-world bosses. And for all you completionists out there, get ready for endless hours of fishing, crafting, and exploring.

The big question now: Can Throne and Liberty maintain its early momentum, or will it face the same post-launch struggles as its Amazon Games predecessor, New World? Only time—and hopefully not another server crash—will tell.
