The Culling 2 Shutting Down, Original Culling Game Going F2P and Going Back to Day 1 Build

Xaviant Games's director of operations Josh Van Veld announced today that The Culling is relaunching as a free to play battle royale game and starting over with their day 1 build. Yes, they're literally bringing the game back to the same exact build they had in March, 2016. All resources at Xaviant are going to be poured towards the original Culling game which means the Culling 2 will be shutting down. That shouldn't come as a surprise though as it's been an unmitigated disaster since launch as it failed to gain any traction. In fact, the game only has 1 player online at the moment and averages less than 5 people online at any given time (not enough to fill a single match).

The original culling game was one of the earliest battle royale games and saw a meteoric rise in popularity after launching but quickly bled players after unpopular changes to core gameplay mechanics.

PC Players who already own The Culling can begin playing "Culling Day 1" on Steam's test servers this week. Xaviant has restarted development on the original game with a promise to develop it "the right way" this time. The game will also be free to play at some point in the near future.
