If you’re looking to take a break from endgame dungeon running in Diablo Immortal, then why not go fishing in Sanctuary instead? The new fishing system will go live with today’s update along with the new Legendary items, the promised Rune System revamp, and various gem adjustments.

“Because Diablo Immortal is an MMORPG, we have a unique opportunity to explore the world of Sanctuary through a new lens,” said Blizzard. “Fishing is our first step towards adding immersive world-based experiences that bring combat-less gameplay with social touches.”

Before you can go fishing though, you’ll first need to be at least Level 43 to pick up The Great Pastime quest which will reward you with a rod and start you off on your journey to become the best angler in Sanctuary.

You’ll be able to fish in three different spots which will all be located in safe zones so you won’t have to worry about monsters creeping up on you while you reel in your catch. Aside from your fishing rod, you’ll obviously also need bait which you can purchase from the Fisher NPC and each cast of your line will use up one bait.

You’ll have the chance to reel fish of varying rarities which you can then exchange for item rewards or cosmetics for your fishing rod. The rarer the fish you turn in, the better the rewards.

Aside from the new fishing system, players can also look forward to a revamp of the Rune System. Following today’s update, you’ll no longer be required to convert Runes in order to craft Legendary Gems and the costs for crafting them will be adjusted. Rune drops will also be tweaked in line with the changes.

“Through community feedback, we realized that the Rune system left players with bags full of excess Runes that they would likely never be able to use. This new streamlined process will alleviate the pain points from the previous system and provide everyone with increased Gem Power rewards,” explained the devs.
