Electronic Arts is set to raise the price of EA Play this summer for both its Standard and Pro subscription tiers. According to GamesIndustry.biz, the publisher recently started sending out emails notifying users of the impending price increase with details on how much they’ll be tacking on to the current monthly subscription prices.

The price hike will go into effect on May 10 for existing subscribers who are looking at a price increase from $4.99 to $5.99 a month for the Standard tier and from $14.99 to $16.99 for the Pro tier. Annual subscriptions will also be raised from $29.99 to $39.99 and from $179.99 to $199.99, respectively. New subscribers, however, are already reporting increased prices.

It’s worth noting that EA Play isn’t the only platform where you can play EA games, some of which are also available on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and through Microsoft’s Games Pass service, although there’s no guarantee that there won’t be price increases on the said platforms as well.

Microsoft, in particular, raised the price of Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions in June last year, with Sony following suit a few months later when it raised the cost of a PlayStation Plus subscription. It’s an unfortunate industry-wide trend that we’ll likely continue to see as video game companies scramble to recover losses brought about by the post-pandemic decline in sales and rising development costs.
