Ethyrial: Echoes Of Yore Is A Hardcore Old-School MMOPRG Heading To Kickstarter This Year

Here’s another old-school inspired MMORPG for those who want to go back to the roots of the genre. Ethyrial: Echoes of Yore, formerly Blocky Ages, is the pet project of a small team of indie developers called Gellyberry Studios and is described as a high-risk, high-reward game inspired by classic MMORPGs from the late ‘90s. The game also features unrestricted PvP and harsh penalties for death for a truly hardcore experience.

The game has been in closed Alpha since April 2021 with initial plans to launch into open beta later in the year. Unfortunately, that’s been delayed as development progress slowed with only two full-time developers working on the game, unpaid and out of their own pockets.

For 2022, the team says that they’ll be focusing on securing funding to allow them to work on Ethyrial full-time for the rest of the year. They’re first option is Kickstarter which, if successfully funded, will allow them to retain full control of development and realize their vision for the game.

“We didn't want to have a Kickstarter campaign before we felt that we had a game to present, and that is where we are now,” they said. “We want to stand out and show that we can deliver what we promise. Presenting crowdfunding where the game is actually playable (and not just a prototype either) is our way of doing so. In addition, we want to have an open beta running during the Kickstarter campaign so that people can check it out before choosing to opt-in and support us.”

Should the Kickstarter campaign fail, Gellyberry says that they’ll be looking into pitching the game to an angel investor or a publisher. The team will be revealing their plans for the crowdfunding campaign soon. If all goes well, they hope to have the game fully released by 2023.
