Glyph-Bound: Kotodama Combines Pokemon And Final Fantasy Tactics Into A 2D MMO

glyph-bound kotodama turn-based 2d mmorpg

Pokemon meets Final Fantasy Tactics in Glyph-Bound: Kotodama, a new 2D turn-based creature battler that launched into Early Access earlier this month from indie developer Kayac Multimedia.

Like Pokemon, players will go around exploring a 2D pixel world to capture creatures called Kami that can be evolved into two stronger forms as they grow. They also come in different rarities based on their appearance. Captured Kami can then be used to battle other players in Tactics-style turn-based combat. The combat system is the same for both PvP and PvE battles although the early access version only features PvP at the moment.

Kayac is looking to roll out major updates every three months during the early access period with daily and weekly PvP quests to be implemented in future updates. These quests will reward players with additional gold that they can use to grow their Kami, teach them new abilities, and purchase cosmetics. PvE content and enemy AI, however, will presumably be arriving at launch.

The game is free-to-play on Steam and will is slated for full release sometime in the third quarter of 2023. You can check out the Early Access trailer below for a quick look at the game.
