Guild Wars 2 World Restructuring Announced

Guild Wars 2 staff recently announced the restructuring of their worlds, in an attempt to achieve a population balance between them.

Their goals for their World Restructuring are as follows:

  • Create great matches
  • Handle population fluctuations
  • Balance teams
  • Diversify World v. World experiences

"It is important to keep in mind that we still are investigating and working on this system. It is possible that this system will continue to evolve as we develop it, and we will be constantly testing to make sure the system meets our goals and our expectations for a quality experience. This post is an opportunity to share with you our plans for the new system, and respond to questions before the system is far long in the development process."

Worlds in Guild Wars 2 will no longer exist as per the new system, and instead a system will be put into effect that pulls players from all current worlds and new worlds will be made every 8 weeks. This will help spread the population density in such a way that worlds will no longer have high activity at all times vs. some that only have activity during certain peak hours. The World Select in the character selection screen will no longer be in place, and instead an option to play in North American or European worlds will replace it.

Players will still be able to transfer between regions, although costs for such transfers have not been announced as of yet.
