Blizzard Has Ended Development On 7-Year Old Heroes Of The Storm

Blizzard Entertainment has pulled the plug on Heroes of the Storm, its first entry into the MOBA market, after seven years of live service. The game is now in maintenance mode, like Starcraft and Starcraft 2, which means that it will no longer be updated with new content except for new seasons, hero rotations, and balance patches.

“In the future, we'll continue seasonal rolls and hero rotations, and while the in-game shop will remain operational there are no plans for new for-purchase content to be added,” announced Blizzard in the latest Heroes of the Storm dev blog. “Future patches will primarily focus on client sustainability and bug fixing, with balance updates coming as needed.”

The announcement wasn’t entirely unexpected since Blizzard has been shifting focus and developers away from what was once one of the key titles in its eSports portfolio since 2018. Players who’ve stuck with the game over the years and will continue to stick with it (at least until the next patch) will be able to claim a free Epic Arcane Lizard mount as thanks for their continued support.

“To our Heroes community, we say, ‘thank you’. You continue to be one of our most passionate communities, we’re grateful for your continued dedication and support, and as always, we look forward to seeing you in the Nexus,” concluded Blizzard.
