Johnny Depp's film company to produce a... Secret World Legends TV Series?

This was quite surprising to read - Secret World Legends is coming to television in a TV Series called The Secret World. It's still a bit hard to digest, truth be told, and there is no definitive date on when this will air. Based on the source article over at Deadline, the TV adaptation will be written by James V. Hart, known for his work on Hook, and Crossbones, and Jake Hart, with former CSI: NY showrunner Pam Veasey on board.

The show will feature a plot centered on a team of undercover agents, and the quiet wars of power held between secret societies: the Illuminati, Dragon, and the Templar, but also their war against the supernatural.

“It’s one of the most character driven and well developed games I know of and naturally lends itself to fantastical storylines with intriguing characters, a thrilling and binge-worthy international TV show,” - Gudrun Giddings, Producer, on Secret World Legends.

Traditionally, movies based on games, and games based on movies, have not done amazingly well. Usually movie-based games hold themselves well, but this is taking a famous MMORPG to a medium normally unexplored - a TV series. I look forward to seeing how The Secret World does as a TV series, which will have more hours, more time, to explore the story of ideas behind a video game.
