Last Oasis Rolls Out ‘The First Of Many’ Season 5 Balance Updates

With Last Oasis’ massive game-changing Season 5 “LOverhaul” update now live, developer Donkey Crew is now taking on the monumental task of balancing all the shiny new things that they added as player feedback starts pouring in.

One of the key features of the Season 5 update is Last Oasis’ transition from a PvP-focused survival game to one that puts more emphasis on PvE. In line with this design switch, Donkey Crew significantly increased the significance and difficulty of PvE encounters across the board. Some players, however, feel as though they’ve somewhat overdone it.

In response, the studio has pushed out a balance update which comes with various adjustments to survival sandbox’s schematics and stamina systems. These adjustments include the ability to permanently unlock schematic tech at Rupu Shrines, an increase in the base recovery of Stamina, and lower Stamina costs when using the grappling hook and harvesting. Tools have also had their durability increased along with Walkers which now have higher health points.

The developers also nerfed the spinner to encourage players to use other remote weapon types and replaced Skirmisher mob’s heavy javelin with a light javelin so they don’t hit so hard.

According to Donkey Crew, the recent balance update will be “the first of many” although they note that finding the middle ground when it comes to the game’s overall difficulty won’t be easy. “There’s quite frankly no ideal solution, some people love the difficulty, others hate it. There’s no easy way to find a balance that does not upset one or the other group,” the studio said. “As we promised before launch, we will iterate on this until it’s a rock solid, enjoyable survival experience, then move on to release the next map with new content.”
