Mabinogi is about to get a whole lot prettier as devCAT Studio works to port the 20-year-old free-to-play anime MMORPG over to Unreal Engine 5 as Mabinogi Eternity. Publisher Nexon first announced the engine upgrade back in December and is now offering glimpses of what’s been done so far in a new microsite.

Both the landing page and website offers more information on Mabinogi Eternity through both dev blogs and preview videos with more to come as the dev team as work on the upgrade continues. Apart from a fresh coat of paint, Mabinogi Eternity also promises sweeping improvements to almost every aspect of the game, from the backend to gameplay systems and features.

Game director Min Kyunghun also confirmed that Mabinogi Eternity is meant to be the successor to Mabinogi, although it’s unclear whether it will be replacing the original game entirely. In the meantime, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the new microsite for new announcements. Don’t expect a release timeline soon though as the upgrade is still in the “prototyping” stage.
