Monster and Memories developer Niche Worlds Cult reports on the progress being made on the old-school MMORPG’s development as they prepare for another playtest in December. According to the studio, they’re short-term goal is to get the proof of concept out to fans, which is now 70% complete.

“This is a true vertical slice of all of our core gameplay, systems, and content types,” the studio said. “Once complete, we will focus on scaling the content using validated data rather than guesswork and promises.”

The team dove further into their plans for the upcoming game, reiterating their vision to create a “place to escape to and explore, rather than just a game to beat.” The plan is to start small and build up the game, as well as their reputation, over time.

It looks like the plan is paying off based on the overwhelmingly positive reaction from the Reddit community. “Their open tests, even in a very unfinished pre-alpha state, were an absolutely magical experience that I hadn’t felt in 20-plus years since early EQ days,” wrote one user.

The studio also updated and overhauled the Monsters and Memories official site last month with a brand-new look and more information about the medieval fantasy title and a boatload of screenshots and concept art. It’s worth checking out if you haven’t done so already.
