Old School RuneScape Is Bringing Back Slayer Partners Four Years After It Was Disabled

Way back in 2015, Old School RuneScape introduced a handy in-game mechanic called the Slayer Partners system which allowed two players to buddy up and complete tasks to progress through slayer levels and earn rewards. The feature was unfortunately disabled ‘indefinitely’ in 2020 after players rampantly exploited it for their own gains.

Indefinitely ultimately ended up being four years as the Slayer Partners system will soon be making its long-awaited return with various changes and improvements to prevent potential abuse.

“In June 2020, we removed Slayer Partners due to a number of rulebreaking incidents,” Jagex explained. “Luckily, ‘indefinitely’ does not mean ‘permanently,’ and today we’d like to share an updated Slayer Partners pitch which avoids the pitfalls of the previous system while letting you and a friend mow down all the monsters you want.”

“We know you’ve wanted Slayer Partners back for a long time now. This update mostly just restores the system to its former glory with improved systems and usability,” the studio added.

With the new and improved Slayer Partners system, Slayer duos will be assigned a task to complete regardless of their individual skill levels, but they’ll need to complete at least 20% of the assigned task to get credit. Partnerships will also persist between play sessions allowing both players to pick up exactly where they left off when they log out or one player to complete the task on their own, keeping in mind the 20% rule.

“We’ve already consulted with a handful of expert players and we’re confident that the current potential for abuse is extremely low,” Jagex said. “That said, we’re poised to make changes if we do see anyone exploiting the system – although we don’t plan to remove it again any time soon.”

Jagex promises to have Slayer Partners back up and running before the release of the Araxxor update on August 28.
