Overwatch Players Will Get To Keep All Of Their Progress In Overwatch 2 With One Caveat

Now that we’re just a month away from Overwatch 2’s official launch, there’s one little step that players will need to complete if they want to keep all their progress from the original game. This applies to console players and those with accounts on multiple platforms. If you’ve been playing exclusively on PC, then you’re all set and can move on to our other articles for the day.

Like the original game, Overwatch 2 will require a Battle.net account to play regardless of whether you’re playing on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, or the Nintendo Switch. For cross-progression to apply in the sequel, players will need to link their console accounts into one single Battle.net account starting today to be merged into one all-encompassing cross-platform Overwatch 2 profile on launch day. This all-encompassing profile will include existing cosmetics, skill ratings, stats, achievements, and endorsements.

Unfortunately for those who have multiple accounts on a single platform, you’ll only be able to link one account per platform. This also applies to accounts for PC as two accounts on PC cannot be merged. You’ll have the chance to change the console accounts connected to your Battle.net account but you’ll only have one chance to merge them so make sure that you have the correct account.

Note that the account merge will not happen automatically at launch and you’ll have to manually approve it. If you aren’t able to merge your accounts for some reason, you’ll continually encounter an in-game message that will ask you to merge them until you do. But if you want to keep your progress in Overwatch, you don’t necessarily have a choice since Overwatch 2 will completely replace the original game once it launches on October 4th.
