Pokemon Go Celebrates Anniversary With Over 750M Downloads

It's been a year since Pokemon Go has been released, and Niantic and The Pokemon Company are gearing up to host the game's first anniversary with a series of special events.

Pokemon Go is looking to celebrate its milestone with Pokemon GO Fest, the game's very first live event, where trainers can head to Chicago’s Grant Park for a fun-filled day of Pokémon GO extravaganza on July 22, 2017.

Pokémon GO Fest is our first official dedicated real-world event for Pokémon GO and will be hosted in Chicago on July 22. Trainers from around the world will flock to Chicago’s Grant Park for a Pokémon GO celebration. The fun-filled day of Pokémon GO in the park will give Trainers the chance to meet fellow players and engage in a variety of activities. Tickets for Pokémon GO Fest will go on sale beginning June 19 at 10:00 A.M. PDT on PokemonGoLive.com/Fest.

Other events planned include a European tour across Unibail-Rodamco shopping centers, as well as a "Pikachu Outbreak" that will be taking place in Yokohama, Japan.

Those who are not able to make it to the party can still join in on the game's limited time Solstice event. The Solstice event will include higher encounter rates for cute fan-favourite Pokemon (Charmander is on the list), as well as increased XP bonuses and substantial cash shop discounts.

Within its first year, Pokemon Go has acquired a hefty 750 million downloads under its belt. Though 500 million of those downloads occurred in the first two months of the app's release and has fallen off considerably since then, the game is still able to maintain 65 million monthly active users on board.

With impressive numbers like this, Pokemon Go is sparing no expense on its live anniversary events and will be celebrating in grand style. If you haven't seen a troupe of dancing Pikachus live on stage just yet, this summer's Pokemon GO Fest will be your chance to join in on the fun.
