The wildly popular virtual platform, Roblox, is undergoing a major transformation. In a move that’s sure to shake things up, Roblox is introducing paid video games alongside its existing free-to-play model.

This means players will soon be able to explore a whole new dimension of experiences on Roblox. Specific details are still under wraps, but we know that certain Roblox experiences, known as “games,” will be available for purchase using real-world currency on PC. The price point is expected to vary depending on the complexity of the experience. Don’t worry, your in-game currency will still be king for buying virtual items like clothing and accessories.

According to developer Roblox Corporation, the move is all about empowering developers, offering a generous revenue share (up to 70%) to creators whose games attract players and generate revenue. “By offering new revenue shares for paid access experiences, we are providing our current creators with an additional opportunity to earn on Roblox,” stated Enrico D’Angelo, vice president of economy at Roblox.

This suggests that the free-to-play model will remain the core of Roblox, with paid experiences acting as a complementary option.

With paid video games joining the mix, Roblox is positioning itself as a one-stop shop for all things virtual. Whether you’re a free-to-play explorer or a premium experience seeker, Roblox seems determined to cater to all gaming styles and budgets.

One thing’s for sure: the introduction of paid video games marks a significant step for Roblox. How this move impacts the platform’s future remains to be seen.
