Early Friday morning, RuneScape players encountered widespread login issues that forced the developers to rollback the servers later in the day. The developers also decided to delay this week’s update as they tried to get to the root of the problem.

While login errors continue to plague the game as of this writing, the team says that investigations are now complete and that they’re now currently working on a solution. They also assure players that no accounts have been lost in spite of a few minor data losses.

“As things stand, all Old School players and more than 99% of RuneScape accounts remain unaffected. While most of you are now back playing as normal, we will not rest until all of you are back in game,” said Jagex in their latest update. “Following the work this weekend, we are pleased to say all accounts are safe. All character progress before February 8th is intact. However, we have some data gaps for that 1% between February 8th and March 4th.”

The team is currently unable to give a timeline for the fix because of the complicated nature of the problem but they say that they’re confident in their solution and are now working long hours to implement it.

“It is a complicated beast with lots of variables to cross check and we’ll be as thorough as possible to make this work. However, this is going to take time, likely most of this week. [. . .] Whilst we’re doing this work, we will additionally need to lock out a small group of players who are already back playing, but who have a known data gap, and we’ll contact those players directly.”

Compensation for the downtime will be discussed after the issues have been resolved. More information can be found on the Runescape official site.
