RuneScape is set to introduce the intriguing world of Necromancy on August 7th, and the development team is now delving deeper into the mechanics of this new skill and combat style. In its latest dev blog, Jagex sheds light on rituals, a crucial aspect of Necromancy and its Skilling pillar.

The Necromancy storyline revolves around Death seeking your assistance in thwarting Rasial, the First Necromancer, who has been pilfering souls from the underworld. As part of your mission, you will work to liberate the souls from Rasial’s clutches, restoring them to their rightful place with the aid of your newfound alliance with the undead.

Rituals serve as the primary Skilling activity in Necromancy. By engaging in rituals, you will generate resources that can be utilized in combat, while also attracting the attention of the undead, guiding them back to the Well of Souls and the city. The Ritual Site, home to the Well of Souls, is a communal area where fellow necromancers can be found honing their craft.

To perform a successful ritual, certain prerequisites must be met, including gathering essential components at the Ritual Site. Glyphs, inscribed in the language of the dead using Ghostly ink, form a crucial part of the ritual. As you progress, the complexity of these glyphs will increase. You’ll also need adequate light sources and Focus, input items tailored to the intent of the ritual.

Choosing the right Focus item during the ritual will determine the rewards you receive as the output. For instance, using a bone in the ritual can grant you 175 necromancy XP, one ectoplasm, and contribute one soul to the Well of Souls.

Players are advised to expect the unexpected throughout the ritual process. The Soul Attraction percentage, displayed at the top of your screen, indicates the likelihood and types of random events that can occur. These events present opportunities for bonus rewards, ranging from XP boosts to additional resources.

As your Necromancy skill progresses, you’ll unlock more intricate rituals. Utilizing glyphs, especially as you gain access to bonus forms, allows you to customize specific elements of your rituals, enabling you to tailor-fit your approach to suit your playstyle or build preferences.
