Tibia’s Summer Update Adds Weapon Skill Trees and Lore-Heavy Quests

Nearly three decades after launch, Tibia is still finding new ways to keep its 2D monster-slaying loop fresh. Today’s summer update introduces a Weapon Proficiency System that lets players level more than 400 individual weapons simply by using them in combat. Each weapon now comes with its own skill tree, giving veterans a new layer of customization and newcomers an extra sense of progression.

The patch also expands the game world with two quest lines that play to Tibia’s love of high-fantasy oddities. One sends players into a realm built entirely out of books, while the other mixes orc blood with vampiric corruption. A two-minute trailer on CipSoft’s YouTube channel offers a quick tour of the changes.

  • Weapon Proficiency System: Equip a weapon, defeat monsters, and earn experience toward seven proficiency levels.
  • Perks: Each level unlocks one of up to three perks, encouraging you to tailor weapons to specific playstyles.
  • Mastery Stage: Maxed-out weapons can be “mastered,” granting new titles and achievements rather than raw power.
  • Quest – “Between the Lines”: Explore a magical library world where the environment is made of books and new literary-themed creatures roam.
  • Quest – “Bloody Tusks”: Investigate dark experiments that fuse orcish strength with vampiric influence.
  • New Creatures and Items: Both quest lines introduce fresh enemies and loot, adding variety to high-level hunts.

Tibia launched in 1997 and has maintained a loyal following thanks to its low system requirements, open PvP servers, and a development cadence that still delivers sizeable updates several times a year. The Regensburg-based (German) studio CipSoft has leaned on that steady support to keep experimenting with modern RPG staples such as skill trees while preserving the game’s retro charm.
