Blizzard Explains How World Of Warcraft’s Cross-Faction Guild System Will Work

world of warcraft cross faction guilds

For almost two decades, World of Warcraft players have been waiting on the chance to roll with both Horde and Alliance players under the same guild banner. With the Embers of Neltharion update’s launch, they’ll be able to do just that as Blizzard begins to blur the faction line for guilds with the addition of cross-faction guilds.

According to the studio, a guild's affiliation with the Alliance or Horde will be entirely dependent on the faction of the Guild Leader. Guild repairs and shared chat will be available to opposite-faction guild members but don't expect to become best buddies with your former enemies outside of instances as you'll still be considered Unfriendly (or Hostile in War Mode) to each other.

While everyone in the guild will benefit from shared perks, contribution to certain achievements will also still depend on your faction. If you're an Alliance member of a Horde guild, for example, you won’t be able to contribute to the guild’s Alliance Slayer achievement, which makes perfect sense from a faction standpoint.

Embers of Neltharion hits the live servers on May 2nd. Until then, expect to see more Embers-related dev blogs from Blizzard.
