Neowiz Games was founded in 2007 after its parent company, Neowiz Holdings Corporation, was separated into different subsidiaries, one of which is Neowiz Games Corp. Neowiz Holdings was established in 1997 by former members of Nexon, another Korean video game company. The company initially started servicing Sayclub, a popular social networking service in Korea. In the years that followed, Neowiz slowly entered the area of online gaming, starting with Sayclub games service. The company then launched its own game portal Pmang in the early months of 2003. Through Pmang Neowiz Games was able to publish and service various games ranging from casual online casino games to hardcore MMOFPS titles such as Alliance of Valiant Arms (A.V.A.) and Special Force, which, in late 2006, gained 12 market shares with 11 million active users. In 2004, Neowiz signed an agreement with Gunho Entertainment to publish its school action adventure game Yogurting in Japan. In 2006 the company continued its expansion into the Japanese gaming market by signing a deal with EA to co-develop and co-publish online games. Neowiz also signed partnership deals with various development studios, including Thingsoft and Pentavision, which both went on to join the company as internal development studios after the restructuring of Neowiz Holdings Corp. in 2007. Thingsoft left the company in 2010 to become an independent development studio. Following the company’s restructuring, Neowiz Games expanded their online presence with the establishment of Neowiz Games China and with the opening of a branch office in Silicon Valley, USA in 2008. The Silicon Valley office was established to handle web and online games released in the US market as well as to oversee business dealings with their partner Hidden Path Entertainment. Neowiz currently services over 40 games across different genres and locations around the world.
