League of Legends 

 

2016 League of Legends World Championship

The biggest international tournament for the biggest eSport is finally here: the 2016 League of Legends World Championship. With over $2 million on the line and eternal glory, six different regions and sixteen teams will come together across the United States.

The first event is the Group Stage which will take place in the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, CA from September 29 - October 2 and October 6-9.

Next, the Quarterfinals takes place in The Chicago Theater in Chicago, IL from October 13-16.

After that, the Semifinals takes place in iconic Madison Square Garden in New York, NY.

Finally, the Finals are set to come back to the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, CA. Notably, the same location as the 2013 Worlds Finals.

Two weeks ago, the Group Draws took place and the top teams of each region were placed into their groups.

Here are the groups:

Group A:

  • Rox Tigers (LCK)
  • G2 Esports (EU LCS)
  • Counter Logic Gaming (NA LCS)
  • Albus Nox Luna (CIS)

Group B:

  • Flash Wolves (LMS)
  • SK Telecom T1 (LCK)
  • Team I May (LPL)
  • Cloud9 (NA LCS)

Group C:

  • Edward Gaming (LPL)
  • AHQ e-Sports Club (LMS)
  • H2k Gaming (EU LCS)
  • INTZ e-Sports (CBLoL)

Group D:

  • TSM (NA LCS)
  • Royal Never Give Up (LPL)
  • Samsung Galaxy (LCK)
  • Splyce (EU LCS)

The top two of each group will qualify for the Quarterfinals in Chicago.

Notably, renown EDM artist Zedd collaborated with Riot Games for this year's Worlds soundtrack. Similar to Imagine Dragons' song "Warriors" two years ago, attendees to the Finals at the Staples Center should expect Zedd to perform at the Finals in Los Angeles.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Gfinity CS:GO Invitational

The Gfinity CS:GO Invitational was a premier tournament featuring four teams competing for $100,000 USD. Going from September 23-25, the tournament took place in Birmingham, Great Britain.

Here were the participating teams:

  • Epsilon eSports
  • Team EnVyUs
  • GODSENT
  • mousesports

The first Semifinal was Team EnVyUs vs Epsilon eSports with Team EnVyUs taking it 3-1. On the other side, mousesports beat GODSENT 3-1 as well. In the Finals, Team EnVyUs was able to sweep mousesports in Cache, Cobblestone, and Dust II. With this victory, Team EnVyUs won $50,000.

ESL Pro League Season 4

The fourth season of the ESL Pro League has started in both Europe and North America. This premier tournament runs from August 17 to October 13 to the finals in Brazil from October 28-30. The Finals involves a $750,000 prize pool and the top four seeds from EU and NA respectively.

The MarsTV Dota 2 League 2016 Autumn tournament takes place in Xiamen, China from September 28 to October 2.

Northern Arena BEAT Invitational Closed Qualifier

Going from September 9-30, the Northern Arena BEAT Invitational Closed Qualifier have eight teams playing in a double elimination bracket with a best-of-five grand final. The winner of the qualifier advances to the LAN final in Montreal. The total prize pool is $100,000 USD for the main tournament that will take place from November 11-13.

Overwatch World Cup 2016

The Overwatch World Cup has sixteen teams representing different nations competing from November 5-6 in BlizzCon, Anaheim, California.

Lenovo Cup

WePlay.tv and Lenovo organized the Overwatch Lenovo Cup, featuring 8 teams and a $8,000 prize pool. Taking place from September 5-22, teams played in a Group Stage and a double elimination playoff. Here were the teams participating:

  • Luminosity Gaming
  • ANOX
  • TORNADO ROX
  • Ninjas in Pyjamas
  • Team EndPoint

Despite losing in the first Winners' Round to REUNITED 3-0, Ninjas in Pyjamas were able to climb in the Losers' bracket to meet REUNITED again in the Grand Finals. With vengence, Ninjas in Pyjamas swept 3-0 over REUNTIED to win $5,000.

Overwatch Open

The Overwatch Open is organized by ELEAGUE and FACEIT with a gigantic $300,000 USD prize pool. Taking place from September 25-30, the Overwatch Open features a Group Stage with best-of-three matches and a single elimination Playoff with best-of-five matches.
