Fishing MMOs

Sometimes you just want to kick back, relax, and absorb the great outdoors, but from the relative comfort of inside. Thoreau might be ashamed but he ain't around so who cares? Enjoy the peaceful zen of fishing MMOs, games where you're success is a mixture of luck, perseverance, and how expensive the lure you tacked on to the end of your poll is.

Fishing Planet

xIf you like your fishing games to be topped with a sense of realism then look no further than Fishing Planet, a serene and rewarding experience. In-between catching catfish, soak in the meditative atmosphere with nuances that create an immersive experience, e.g. tug on your line and watch the ripple gently cascade across the water's surface, but be careful not to scare away your catch.

World of Fishing

xIf you prefer to forego realism for a more ridiculous, communal experience then put on your suit and head to the waters of World of Fishing. Travel between 30 locations from around the globe, and lock eyes with other players in heated competitions. Each catch rewards experience and knowledge, unlocking new gear and locations to travel to. If you prefer a cooky experience then enter the World of Fishing.

Atom Fishing 2

xFollowing a nuclear apocalypse the last thing I would do is head to the local river and start fishing for food, but if you're adventurous—or a survivalist—then try your luck in the ravaged universe of Atom Fishing 2. Not only do you catch fish but then get to choose what happens to their squirming fins next: carve it, sell it, catch it—but don't eat it.

Euro Fishing

xThis one's buy-to-play but Euro Fishing is worth mentioning for its relative success as an arcade fishing simulator. Enjoy all the fun of snagging a catch without having to swipe any mosquitoes while you pose for photos.

I've been playing games before I could walk, and MMOs since Earthlink 5.0, a terrible way to play. I bounce around between games a lot, from EVE Online back to Vanilla and forward to whatever Indie title can keep my interest.
