MMORPG Games Like Tera
Fan of En Masse Entertainment's Tera: Rising? Looking for new MMOs to play like Tera? Well, you came to the right place. Here's a compilation of free to play games that share many of Tera's key features, most notably open world gameplay and action oriented combat. There are dozens of action MMORPGs like Tera, but few of them have open world environments. MMORPGs like Vindictus and Dragon Nest for example, have similar combat mechanics as Tera, but aren't open world, so they aren't good alternatives to Tera, if you're looking for something very similar; both are still great games if you don't mind instanced gameplay though. Anyway, without further adieu:
MMORPGs Like Tera
Like Tera, Wildstar originally launched as a buy to play subscription MMORPG but later went free to play. The game features similar action oriented combat and persistent world gameplay. Unlike Tera, which is purely a fantasy setting, Wildstar is a sci-fi MMORPG with some fantasy elements thrown in. Visually, the game looks a bit like the Ratchet and Clank / Sly Cooper, which may sound odd, but the game actually looks gorgeous. Wildstar is an excellent Tera alternative.
Neverwinter is the second Dungeons and Dragons themed MMORPG after Dungeons and Dragons Online. The game launched in 2013 and features action combat and a persistent world, making it another solid alternative to Tera. One excellent feature in Neverwinter which always keeps the game fresh is its Foundry system. Players can create their own dungeons and design their own quests, which other players can
Guild Wars 2 launched as a buy to play MMORPG but went free to play on August 29, 2015. Although the combat isn't exactly like Tera's, the combat is still action oriented. Unlike the original Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2 features a persistent world, making it a solid alternative to Tera. Guild Wars 2 is also one of the highest rated games on this website, making it well worth checking out.
Blade and Soul is another action MMORPG that shares many characteristics with Tera, namely its action combat, persistent world gameplay, and fantasy environment. Both Tera and Blade and Soul are gorgeous looking games too, so if you're looking for some solid eye candy, Blade and Soul is certainly worth a try.
Black Desert Online isn't out in the West just yet, but as a fantasy action MMORPG with a persistent world, it's a good alternative to Tera.
Well, there you have it. These are all free to play action MMORPGs with persistent worlds. Having personally played Tera, I can safely say it's hard to go back to standard point and click MMORPGs with tab targeting; being in control with manual aiming just feels right. I considered adding Skyforge to this list, but like Vindictus and Dragon Nest, it's not open world. Know any other good MMORPGs like Tera that I missed? Let me know in the comments below and I'll update this list to include it!
