Get ready to set sail on the post-apocalyptic seas of Age of Water as the open-world survival MMO gets an early access launch date of April 18. Gaijin Entertainment first announced the Waterworld-inspired title in December 2020, but we didn’t see any news on that front until its paid early access release in June 2022, which was technically a closed beta test of sorts. Now, it’s on its way to an actual early access launch on Steam in just a few weeks.

Gaijin Entertainment, of course, is best known as the studio behind vehicular multiplayer shooter War Thunder. Unlike many of its lobby-based games, Age of Water will be a shared world massively multiplayer game with instances that can support up to 100 players. It features story-based PvE content and open-world PvP but you won’t be forced to fight with other players if you don’t want to.

Age of Water will be buy-to-play on launch with a cosmetics-only cash shop and possibly paid DLC releases at some point in the future. The studio, however, reaffirms its stand against pay-to-win items, but we won’t know for sure until we actually get to see the cash shop’s contents on launch. For now, we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Gaijin has also released a free playable prologue on Steam just in case you want to test the waters before buying in.
