Amazon Game Studios Announces Not One, But Three Online Games

Last night, Amazon Game Studios formally unveiled its upcoming title Breakaway live on Twitch. We expected that. What we didn't expect was that two other game announcements would be coming with it.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. As you might have guessed, based on the teaser images, Breakaway is a MOBA of sorts. Described as a "4v4 mythological sport brawler," the game features two teams of mythological figures—such as Morgan Le Fay, Spartacus, and Vlad the Impaler—duking it out as they attempt to grab "the relic" and run it to the opposing team's side of the map, where they will proceed to smash it into the opposing team's base, thus scoring a point. At the beginning of each map, players will be given a chance to summon "persistent buildables" that can "besiege foes, shield teammates, or create new pathways through the arena."

The game will be powered by Amazon's proprietary version of Cryengine, Amazon Lumberyard, and will feature direct Twitch integration. Twitch integration features include the ability to add "real-time stat overlays" to streams, the ability to invite followers to a match you're streaming, and notifications that let players know when they're in a match that is being streamed. If you're in a match that is being streamed, you will even be able to follow the person streaming "with a single click." Furthermore, streamers will be able to host polls and viewers will be able to "wager loyalty points" that can be redeemed for various "in-game rewards."

The second game that Amazon Game Studios announced is called "New World." It is described as "a massively multiplayer, open-ended sandbox game that allows players to carve out their own destiny with other players in a living, cursed land." Players will be given complete freedom in a 17th Century North America-inspired world that "transforms with seasons, weather, and time of day." It sounds a bit like a survival game, in that you will be able to "band together to reclaim monster-haunted wilds and build thriving civilizations," go it alone and become a hermit, or turn to banditry. Like Breakaway, it will feature "deep Twitch integration with broadcaster-led events, achievements, and rewards."

The last game announced is called "Crucible." Not much is known about Crucible as of yet, but it seems to be a battle royale title of sorts that will also feature Twitch integration.

Crucible is described as follows.

Crucible is a battle to the last survivor on a hostile, alien world. Players choose and customize heroes, making alliances and betraying allies on their path to victory. An additional player heightens the drama by triggering events, live-streaming the battles, and interacting with viewers.

While no in-game footage of Crucible or New World is available as of yet, you can find ten minutes of Breakaway footage embedded below. If you're intrigued by the concept, you can sign up for the upcoming Alpha on the official website. If you need to see more, Amazon Game Studios will be streaming the game on and off throughout TwitchCon on the official Breakaway Twitch channel. More information about all three games can be found on Amazon Game Studios' official website.
