Over the past few months, Amazon Game Studios has been waging a seemingly never-ending war against bots in Lost Ark, which have continually been a thorn on the studio and the community’s side since the MMORPG’s western launch. The studio reports that its permanently banned millions of accounts since then, in addition to implementing stricter anti-bot measures such as level-gating for area chat, better reporting tools, and improvements to its anti-cheat software.

“We’re working closely with Easy Anti Cheat to improve their support of Lost Ark and with Smilegate RPG to improve the native bot detection system, while tuning events and rewards to prevent or remove paths for bot abuse. We’re also exploring new ways to help combat bots natively at scale,” said Amazon.

The team has also blocked IPs of regions outside of their publishing jurisdiction that have shown large amounts of bot activity. They’ve also banned the use of VPNs to prevent botters from working around the IP blocks.

Implementing two-factor authentication or Captcha, as suggested by some players, is apparently out of the question as it will require a massive amount of work. Real-world account owner identification also isn’t plausible because of the varying laws in territories and regions where the game is available. Amazon, however, assures the community that they’re looking into other scalable options to rid the game of bots once and for all.

“As we continue our quest to rid Arkesia of bots, we are also conscious of possible pain points some of these measures might cause for our players, and are working to balance this,” said the studio. “We appreciate your patience as we continue working to bring the best possible Lost Ark experience to our players.”
