Yesterday, Areeb World was made available on the official site for 215 Saudi Riyals. According to Google's currency conversion calculator, 215 SR comes out to about $57. Perhaps this was just the local cost, however, and Steam's global pricing would be different. It was not. Having launched this morning on Steam, Areeb World is officially $54.99, a price point much higher than I am sure anyone expected.

For those who have not yet seen it, Areeb World is an '80s anime-inspired MMORPG with hovercars and customizable suits of power armor. It features challenging dungeons, lots of gear, and all of the staples of MMORPGs, only with a unique setting we rarely see. It's also currently only available in Arabic.

And it launched at a price of $54.99. Considering it is buy-to-play, rather than free-to-play or a subscription game, it makes sense. Regardless, it is a staggering price that is a bit hard to convince yourself to pay for a developer that you were previously unaware of. Remal IT currently has "one of the largest Internet networks in the Arab world attracting more than 3 million visitors per day," according to their LinkedIn page, but they are less well-known globally.

On the bright side, as of yesterday, a developer has posted saying that they are looking for publishers for an English version. Perhaps it may happen one day. Perhaps, depending on the publisher, it may be lower in price
