Blizzard Announces Legacy Servers Are Happening

Blizzard has finally decided to speak up after months of silence, and announced that they will be launching legacy World of Warcraft servers. A cheeky forum post reads, "We thought we knew, but we were wrong." Turns out, legacy servers is the project former WoW director Tom Chilton has been assigned to work on.

"I mean we all loved the original World of Warcraft," says Chilton in a press statement. "Many Blizzard employees started working here because of that vision. I'm proud to announce that we will be bringing classic epic adventures back to the fans!"

It's not clear what kind of business model Legacy server will adopt, or whether or not they will advance through the expansions. When pressed for questioning Blizzard remained silent. They did reveal that we can expect Legacy servers to launch into beta testing some time this summer.

I have to say I'm pretty excited, but I do have to wonder how this will affect the private server communities.
