Blizzard Entertainment’s Mike Ybarra President Says They Won’t Be Doing NFTs

Activision Blizzard is apparently looking into NFTs and play-to-earn mechanics, or at the very least wants to know what the community thinks about them. Several members of the gaming community have reportedly received a survey from British online market research and data analytics firm, YouGov, that contains a question on emerging and future trends in gaming, including NFTs, play-to-earn mechanics, and metaverse gaming.

The survey in question also asks players to share their opinions on other gaming trends such as cross-platform play, game pass subscriptions, cloud streaming, augmented reality, and VR, along with the typical questions about what genres they play, whether they’ve played Blizzard titles in the past, and how frequently they played them.

Blizzard Entertainment president Mike Ybarra, however, was quick to shoot down the idea of NFTs in their games in a Twitter post, saying that, “No one is doing NFTs.” That’s not to say that the studio isn’t planning on creating a metaverse of some kind, introducing play-to-earn mechanics, or dipping their toes into blockchain technology sometime in the future.
