book of travels flowery grasslands bannerMight and Delight’s hugely successful Kickstarter campaign for Book of Travels clearly shows the gaming community’s desire for a fresh concept for an MMORPG. With more than two weeks to go until the end of the campaign, the studio has already raised over $120,000 from more than 3,000 backers. That’s nearly five times their initial $25,500 funding goal.

A number of stretch goals have already been unlocked during the course of the campaign including new skills, the “Go’Bad” minigame, the Cotery Brew skill, and the newly-unlocked Draisine railroad transport. “Use old train tracks and work together to transport your fellow Travellers through the wild.”

Might and Delight is also gathering ideas for islands from the community. The goal is to reach 100 submissions, one of which will be selected to be part of the game. In addition, the studio has also revealed new lore surrounding the spirit beings called Sefra.

“Solitary and volatile, Sefra are powerful spirit beings that inhabit Braided Shore. They aren’t easy to describe or even to spot, as they vary in shape and size and can easily blend into the landscape – into forest, clouds, trees, or rocks. No one knows from where the Sefra originate, they are an accepted part of life in the region, regarded as a force of nature, much like a wind.

With the mediation of especially trained Voices, some Sefra will communicate with humans to aid their causes, acting as counselors and protectors or taking a role in political matters. Others, however, remain reclusive. Over time a tradition has emerged in which single Sefra are made guardians of a certain place: a town, forest, or a piece of land. A town council might wish to develop in a particular directions and so look to engage with a Sefra who can help them with a specific need. A farm village located in a region that has troubles might look for a Sefra that can protect them. Other towns might need help with industrialization, trade or crafts. In all agendas, Voices play an essential role.

Conflict ensues when Sefra – who are not always loyal, ‘good’ or attentive – and villagers have different opinions. For example, certain Sefra have opposed the use of industrial tools, insisting on much more traditional methods of agriculture.

Sefra are said to be related to one another, but there is no proof or evidence to this claim. Disgruntled or dangerous Sefra are unlikely to fight, but have been known to hire or manipulate people and animals to do so on their behalf.”

Book of Travels is scheduled for release in early 2020.
